Participant waiver & release

By registering for, attending, volunteering at, or participating in the S.S.H.E.D. 5K Walk/Run (the "Event"), you agree to this Participant Waiver and Release for yourself and, if applicable, for any minor or other participant you register. ASSUMPTION OF RISK: Participation in a community walk/run involves inherent and ordinary risks, including falls, collisions or contact with other participants, spectators, vehicles, animals, equipment, weather conditions, heat, dehydration, illness, uneven or slippery surfaces, road or trail hazards, and the actions or inactions of other people. You understand these risks and voluntarily choose to participate. HEALTH AND FITNESS: You represent that you are physically able to participate safely and that you are responsible for deciding whether to participate. If you have any medical condition or concern, you should consult a physician before participating. You agree to stop participating and seek help if you experience pain, dizziness, shortness of breath, illness, or any other concerning symptom. MEDICAL CARE: You authorize Event staff, volunteers, medical personnel, or emergency responders to arrange or provide emergency medical care if they believe it is needed. You are responsible for any medical, transportation, or related costs that result. RELEASE OF CLAIMS: To the fullest extent permitted by law, you release and agree not to sue South Shore Health Economic Development, the Event organizers, sponsors, partners, vendors, volunteers, venue owners, municipalities, public agencies, and each of their respective directors, officers, employees, agents, representatives, successors, and assigns (collectively, the "Released Parties") for claims, demands, losses, damages, expenses, or liabilities arising out of or related to your participation in or presence at the Event, including personal injury, illness, death, property loss, or property damage, except to the extent caused by a Released Party's gross negligence or willful misconduct. INDEMNITY: You agree to indemnify and hold the Released Parties harmless from claims, losses, damages, liabilities, and expenses, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising from your conduct, your failure to follow Event rules or instructions, or the participation of any minor or other participant you register. EVENT RULES: You agree to follow all Event rules, course markings, traffic controls, and instructions from Event staff, volunteers, law enforcement, medical personnel, and public safety officials. The Event may refuse or remove any participant whose conduct creates a safety concern or disrupts the Event. MINORS: If you register a minor, you represent that you are the minor's parent or legal guardian, or that you are authorized by the parent or legal guardian to complete the registration. You accept this waiver and release on the minor's behalf and agree to be responsible for the minor's participation. PHOTO, VIDEO, AND MEDIA CONSENT: You grant the Event and its organizers permission to photograph, film, record, and otherwise capture your name, image, likeness, voice, statements, and participation at the Event, and to use those materials in Event-related communications, websites, social media, advertising, fundraising, reports, and promotional materials without compensation. This consent does not authorize the sale of your personal information. ACKNOWLEDGMENT: You understand that this waiver affects legal rights. By registering for or participating in the Event, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to this Participant Waiver and Release.
